Topic: LAN 2k4 tournament in prague !

Hi guys!
It’s a while since UT2004 scene was really active. I guess it´s time to change it a bit :) you maybye know me as intel.Pete from clan neophyte. I was inactive for like 2 years due to school, but during that time i was thinking of getting UT scene more active. And with that I want to ask you what do you think about my planned lanparty. I decided to open this lanparty – tournament (there will be pricemoney) to all players from whole Europe. The action should take place in Prague, Czech republic in our Hotel…. More info:

Tournament:
There will be 1on1 tournament for sure. The prize money will depend on number of players, for example: …. 20 players – tournament donation about 250€, 30 players – 400€ (TBA)
But that’s not all… we can have 4on4 TDM tournament if you wish ? So what else tournaments beside 1on1 would you want?
Planned time: June-August 2010, about 3-6 days (TBA)
Place: Prague, Czech Republic,
Exact location: TBA - Pete´s Hotel, 15 minutes from Prague centre, in locality are some shops with food, and restaurants. So there wont be problem with food.

Capacity: maximum 32 players
Technical ground: Internet connection available, Action will be BYOC (but you can borrow few monitors and maybe some computers for some $ too).
Computers will be in the main room and in some rooms.
Entry fee: TBA, but minimal of 40 € (it will depend on duration of action too)
- in the prize is some food (instant soups, some chips, just food to survive a day or so)
- 2 bottles of drink (cola-2L,mattoni-1,5)
- Electricity
- sleeping in our Hotel. Normally one night costs 40 € for each person, but I will rent just about 1 or 3 Apartments where we can sleep, so you wont pay for rooms. But beds wont be for everyone since there are about 4 beds in each apartment, so someone will have to sleep in sleeping-bag .. i hope that is not that big problem. (it will depend on number of players), And of course you can sleep in the main room (there is a small bar in it :->) too.
Other things: There are really a lot of thing that we can do in Prague, if you have problems to convince your parents or bosses in your job, you can just tell them that you are going to see Prague. It´s really nice town and we can make some sightseeing too. Or there are plenty of clubs in Prague as you must know, witch we are going to visit for sure ?
- If you guys want, I can reserve some football playgrounds so we can have some interesting matches.
- There will be “professional” fulltiltpoker.com poker tables in our hotel, so if you like poker, we will play for sure ;)
I know that 50 € seems to be a bit much, but I want to make a really good action, and for that I need some money. The costs aren’t that small too. And I know that you will have other costs with travelling to Czech republic too, but that’s exactly the reason why I´m writing this. I want to know what you guys want.
So what do you think about this? What would you recommend?
P.S. well.. and if I´m able to find some sponsors (already got one) there will mby be some more prizes :)

Hot diggety!
That sure is a nice initiative. Although it's highly unlikely that I'll make it, I love the idea. You provide a hotel, a tournament and a nice city to boot? Impressive.

Nice, If there are any swedes that is interested in going down by car(roadtrips ftw) i'm game. I've been to prague once before aswell and it was a nice and cheap place to visit! The cost for all that you are providing was really cheap aswell so!

WOW ! really nice initiative man ! I'd have come if it was nearer, but i guess its not okay cuz of parents ^^ . Anyway, good luck with planning this ! Don't forget coverage ;)

This simply put sounds like an outstanding idea, unfortunately Prague is too far away for me. All i can do right now is to wish you the best of luck in organizing this event and hope for success, two thumbs up! :)

Great stuff man!
I hope it does not go like: 32 players will say "I am in!" and only 8 will actually arrive.. so:
I suggest doing the payment online before you actually start the action because then you have kind of guarantee that players are really interested in going there and if not, you still have money for others so there will be something to compete for :)
So if you get like 20 x 50€ you can prepare everything, if you get only 16 x 50€ or something you would return the money and cancel the event. How does it sound?

wow, im delighted from number of positive comments :)
Anyway, i need some feedback from you guys aswell. What about termine? Or is it too early to judge when you will have time? For me the best time would be one of last two weeks in August, would it be good for you?
@ RaLa: well, i dont know how old you are, but if you are at least 16 i think there should be no problem from my view. If you dont mind that the others are a bit older (I´m on of the youngest Czech UT player with 20 years). Just try to convince some older germans so they can take care of you eventually :)
And... after we have some idea about the players that are able to arrive, i will make voting about second "main" torunament. We will play 1on1 for sure sice i want to revive this gametype. Hot candidate is 2on2 TDM as some of you already mentioned.

@Engisan: I was thinking about this, but because of that fucking CovCup, i didnt want to make some payments before the players actually arrive and see that the lanparty is "real". But i will surely think once more about it :) Its true that I would have to invest my own money into preparations and if something goes wrong then im screwed. But i consider this risk as a natural risk of these actions..
